Recently, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav criticized the government. He called for a name change for the Uttar Pradesh governor’s residence. Yadav proposed renaming it from Raj Bhavan to ‘Seva Bhavan’. To support his proposal, he shared a 10-second video on social media platform. The video highlighted ongoing construction activities outside Raj Bhavan. In it, Yadav raised concerns about whether the necessary approvals for this construction had been secured.
Yadav firmly stated, “It is expected that the new construction at Raj Bhavan commenced only after obtaining approval for the construction plans and meeting all standards.” This comment emphasizes the need for transparency in public projects. Furthermore, adhering to regulations is crucial for maintaining public trust.
Yadav urged the Lucknow Development Authority to display the approved plans at the construction site. He believes this should happen until the project is completed. By doing so, the public would have access to important project details. This action would also help instill confidence that the construction follows legal guidelines.
In addition, Yadav criticized the existing terminology. He suggested replacing ‘Raj,’ which he associates with monarchical traditions and colonial mentality. Instead, he advocated for the term ‘Seva’. Renaming the residence to ‘Seva Bhavan’ would reflect a more democratic perspective, he argued.
“As changes are underway, I urge the ‘name-changing’ government to replace ‘Raj’ with ‘Seva,'” he declared.
Overall, Yadav’s remarks signal a strong desire for reform and modernization in governance. He supports names and practices that resonate with democratic values. Ultimately, his call for transparency and accountability in public construction projects reflects a broader demand for responsible governance in the state.
