History & Achievements
History
The Mizoram Legislative Assembly is a unicameral legislature consisting of 40 elected members. The first Legislative Assembly of Mizoram was established after the territory became a Union Territory in 1972. Following statehood in 1987, the Assembly became the legislature of the newly formed state. Mizoram's political history has been shaped by the Indian National Congress, Mizo National Front (MNF) and, more recently, the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM). The Mizo National Front governed Mizoram for several terms under leaders including Laldenga and Zoramthanga. In the 2023 Assembly election, the Zoram People's Movement won a majority and formed the government. Lalduhoma became Chief Minister on 8 December 2023. He leads the Zoram People's Movement government.
