Gujarat Congress Rift Deepens as Banaskantha District Chief Questions Organisational Decisions

A fresh internal dispute has emerged within the Gujarat Congress after Banaskantha district president Gulabsinh Rajput questioned the cancellation of an organisational list prepared for the district unit. The development has brought attention to organisational differences within the opposition party ahead of upcoming political and civic contests in the state.

According to The New Indian Express, Gujarat Congress president Amit Chavda cancelled the district organisational list announced by Rajput, citing the absence of approval from the Gujarat Congress Committee. Rajput had proposed appointments for several organisational positions, including vice-president, general secretary, secretary, treasurer, spokesperson and members of the district executive committee.

Rajput publicly questioned the decision and said that the Congress should focus its political efforts on challenging the BJP rather than dealing with internal disagreements. He also indicated that he would accept removal from the district president's position if the local organisation was not allowed to function.

The dispute comes at a time when political parties in Gujarat are preparing for upcoming local-body elections. The Gujarat State Election Commission has announced elections to the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation as well as the Okha and Thara municipalities, with polling scheduled for October 11, 2026.
