Tamil Nadu Politics Intensifies as Vijay-Stalin Clash Triggers Fresh Political Battle

Tamil Nadu Politics has entered another heated phase following a confrontation between Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay and the opposition DMK over remarks and gestures made during recent Assembly proceedings. The controversy has expanded beyond the Assembly, with opposition leaders criticising the Chief Minister and the DMK announcing a statewide protest.
Assembly Remarks Trigger Opposition Anger
The controversy began during Vijay’s reply to debates in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. His references to former Chief Minister M K Stalin, the Emergency period and the Maintenance of Internal Security Act became a major point of contention between the ruling alliance and the DMK.
DMK leaders objected to Vijay’s remarks and demanded that certain references be removed from the Assembly records. The disagreement eventually led to disruption inside the House, with opposition MLAs being evicted during the proceedings.
Vijay Later Clarifies His Gesture
Another controversy emerged over Vijay’s body language during his Assembly speech. VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan criticised what he described as a gesture that appeared to mock Stalin.
Vijay has maintained that the gesture was not intentional and did not have an ulterior motive. However, the issue has continued to attract political attention, with Thirumavalavan urging the Chief Minister to exercise greater restraint while addressing political opponents.
DMK Announces Statewide Protest
The DMK has announced a statewide protest for September 12 against Vijay’s remarks. The party has accused the Chief Minister of making comments that it considers disrespectful to Stalin and the history of the DMK.
The planned protests could further increase the political temperature across the state and give the opposition an opportunity to mobilise party workers ahead of future electoral battles.
