Telangana BJP Steps Up Opposition Campaign Over Farmers’ Insurance and Fee Reimbursement
The Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party has stepped up its political activities in the state, raising issues including farmers' insurance and fee reimbursement while seeking to expand its presence as an opposition force.
The developments come around September 17, which the BJP is using to highlight Telangana Liberation Day. State BJP president N. Ramchander Rao has called for the history of the Telangana liberation struggle to be included in school textbooks alongside the account of Operation Polo.
The party has also organised protests over issues concerning farmers and students. BJP leaders recently drove tractors to the Assembly complex to highlight farmers' insurance concerns, while protests over fee reimbursement resulted in arrests and police action, according to The Indian Express.
The political activity comes at a time when the Bharat Rashtra Samithi is dealing with organisational challenges, with party chief K. Chandrashekar Rao having limited public activity. The BJP has been seeking to occupy more of the opposition political space in Telangana.
The developments have added another dimension to Telangana Politics, particularly around farmers, students and the state's historical identity.
The competing positions of the ruling Congress, BJP and BRS are also contributing to the ongoingPolitical War over governance and opposition leadership in the state.
