Punjab BJP Announces Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatras Ahead of 2027 Assembly Polls

BJP Plans Statewide Campaign Against Drug Menace
The BJP is preparing for an intensive political campaign in Punjab with the launch of four Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatras from September 18. According to reports, the yatras are planned to travel nearly 4,000 kilometres across the state and cover all 117 Assembly constituencies.
The campaign is being positioned around the issue of drug abuse, which remains one of the major political and social concerns in Punjab. The BJP is expected to use the statewide outreach to interact with residents and highlight its proposed approach toward tackling the drug problem.
BJP Targets AAP Government
The announcement comes as political parties increasingly turn their attention toward the 2027 Punjab Assembly election. The BJP has accused the Aam Aadmi Party government of failing to adequately address the drug menace and has linked the issue with broader concerns over governance and law and order.
The campaign therefore has both a public-awareness component and a clear political dimension. Through its Politics campaign, the BJP will seek to strengthen its presence at the grassroots level and present itself as an alternative to the ruling AAP.
Punjab remains an important political battleground, with AAP, Congress, BJP and the Shiromani Akali Dal expected to compete for influence in the next Assembly election.
Four Yatras to Cover All 117 Constituencies
The BJP's campaign is expected to involve four separate yatras covering different parts of Punjab. Reports indicate that the programme will begin from the Pathankot area and conclude in Jalandhar on September 30.
The concluding public meeting is expected to be addressed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, giving the campaign additional national-level visibility. BJP national president Nitin Nabin is also expected to play a role in launching the campaign.
The statewide route will allow BJP leaders and workers to connect with voters across urban and rural constituencies. Such Rallies (opens in a new tab) and public outreach programmes are likely to become increasingly important as parties begin building their campaign networks for 2027.
